MINISTRY WITH YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS (ED-8240)
(09/05/2023-12/15/2023)
Course Memo
This course prepares participants to minister with teenagers and emerging adults in Christian and interfaith settings. What could pastorally and politically empowering ministry look like? We will explore: the social construction of adolescence, the developmental needs and capacities of young people, the pitfalls and possibilities of identity formation, and the pastoral identity of the YYA minister. Weekly course work includes readings, “flipped classroom” lectures, asynchronous reflection, and a 3 hour weekly synchronous meeting with exercises, interaction, and discussion. Students will complete a young person interview, a detailed pastoral analysis of their (past, present, or future) YYA ministry setting, a practical youth ministry proposal, and a concise Theology / Philosophy of Youth Ministry. All students are welcome; doctoral students with additional requirements. [Auditors With Faculty Permission]
