RAHNER'S PHILSPHY OF RELIGION (ST-5208)

(09/05/2023-12/15/2023)

Course Memo

This seminar intends a careful, critical grasp of Karl Rahner's Philosophy of Religion, that is, of his understanding of the potential of human beings to be open to God. Our primary texts will be the 1st edition of his Hearer of the Word, Spirit in the World, and especially his later formulations of the issues in Foundations of Christian Faith and other writings.  It will reveal Rahner's own underlying understanding of the relationship between theology and philosophy, of anthropology, and the nature of revelation.  Seminar participants will also be oriented to contemporary discussions of the issues.  Course requirements include active, informed participation in the seminar discussions; research-strategy related assignments; and a research quality paper of 20-25 pages,  Open to upper MDiv, as well as MA/STL and PhD/STD.
