Course Memo

Art and its interreligious dimension is an online look at the role art plays in the major world religions of Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Christianity. This course will examine the architecture, painting, book arts, ritual objects, and calligraphy that have been produced by these religious traditions. These cultural opportunities create an aide to meditation, contemplation, rites and celebrations.  During the seven weeks, slide presentations, projects and lectures as well as readings and discussions will bring this magnificent and rich trove of art to life. Demonstrating the interconnectedness of mankind, we will learn how art speaks to the journeys of our lives, the sacred, beauty, truth and joy that we encounter along our way.  This course will provide 1.5 credits for students in the Certificate in Interreligious Studies, master's level, academic program (M.Div. MTS, M.A.) or doctoral level. Course begins 6/10/24.[15 max enrollment]
