AFFECT THEORY AND THE NEW TESTAMENT (NT-2900)

(01/30/2023-05/19/2023)

Course Memo

In this course, the students will learn about the very broad category of “affect” in relation to emotions, causality, the self-contained individual.  As a class, we will build a lens with which we will read passages of the New Testament.  As a scriptural hermeneutic, we will shift the paradigm from reading the text for a singular meaning towards reading the lives who produced the text, with the text being an affective expression of their lives.  In other words, to what affects do the texts respond or compensate for: loss, trauma, belonging, etc.?
