SACRED SITES IN ASIA: RELIGION, PRACTICE, ART, NATURE (RAHR-8465)

Course Memo

This seminar course will engage with sacred sites and spaces in Asia belonging to some of the major religions of South Asia and East Asia, such as Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Daoism, and Shinto. The course will be of interest to students interested in material culture, visual culture/art, pilgrimage, nature, and with interest in learning about different religious practices and various beliefs related to sacred sites and spaces and various sacred build environments in various religious traditions across Asia. Evaluation and assignments will include active class participation, a class presentation related to the topic of the final paper, and a final research paper. [20 max enrollment; Auditors excluded]
