Course Memo
This course provides an introduction to the four canonical Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The class focuses on close readings
of each book, with attention given to how each author presents Christ theologically as the fulfillment of the Hebrew Scriptures, literarily as
the subject of biography, and historically as a figure attested by eye-witnesses. This course employs a lecture / discussion format, and
evaluates student progress with a research paper (40%) and presentation (10%), reading responses (25%), and discussion participation
(25%). The class is for MDIV and MA students, with Introduction to Sacred Scripture as a pre-requisite.
