PAULINE LITERATURE (NT-2526)
(01/30/2023-05/19/2023)
Course Memo
This course presents an overview of the fourteen epistles (including Hebrews) which comprise the traditional Pauline corpus. Along with close readings of each epistle, this course introduces students to the history of Pauline scholarship (including interpretation ranging from the early church to modern "old" and "new" perspectives), critical questions related to authorship and theology, and the place of Paul within Christian theology more broadly. The course employs a lecture / discussion format, and evaluates student progress with exams (midterm and final, 25% each), a research assignment and presentation (35%), and discussion participation (15%). This class is for MDiv and MA students, with Introduction to Sacred Scripture as a pre- or co-requisite. This course fulfills the core requirement for NT 2520 The Pauline Corpus.
