Course Memo

SPRING 2022

This course for M.A. and aspiring PhD students will analyze the meaning of truth in Thomas Aquinas. What is truth? How do we get it? Can we ever be truly sure about anything? Can there truly be a Divine/supermental revelation? Is artificial intelligence possible? We will exam the truth as Thomas Aquinas saw it by making a careful and critical study of his major text, De Veritate (On Truth) in order to understand his meaning which can become a springboard for our own thoughts about truth.  Attention will be paid to later authors as William of Occam, Descartes and Kant. Assessment One research paper, and two reflection presentations.
