Course Memo

The purpose of the course is to introduce the history, identity, and self-understanding of the United Church of Christ. This includes discussion of ministry, mission, and structures (local, regional and national), and the resources and challenges presented by a commitment to diversity. The goals of this course are to:

  • Gain knowledge of, and appreciation for, the United Church of Christ through the intersection of its history, theology, polity, and understanding of ministry (vocational and through baptism)
  • Discern/verify whether the UCC is a good fit for the student
  • Prepare to engage more deeply the UCC’s historical and theological foundations
  • Prepare to engage in lifelong learning and teaching of these subjects in ministry settings and one’s own personal ministerial formation

This course meets the requirements of the Manual on Ministry for individuals seeking ordination or authorization by an Association in the United Church of Christ.

This includes the Northern California Nevada Conference Committee on Ministry.
