INTRODUCTION TO HINDUISM (HRST-2100)

(09/07/2021-12/17/2021)

Course Memo

This class surveys the foundational themes, concepts, and philosophical and theological underpinnings in the major theistic schools (Saiva, Vai??ava, Sakta) and philosophical systems of Hinduism. We will also look at women's reliigous spaces, gender, and other contemporary issues in Hinduism. Students will learn the doctrinal frameworks and diverse forms of practice, which convey, acculturate, and inculcate various Hindu beliefs and practices. Students will have the opportunity to present their unique perspective on these traditions, research relevant topics of interest, and receive advise and guidance in the composition of their research work in a way that is germane to their individual graduate research goals.  [Auditors with Faculty Permission]
