Course Memo
An introduction to Buddhist thought and practice, from the lifetime of the Buddha (~5th century BCE) to the present day. This course will engage with primary texts and secondary scholarship in three modules: (1) Buddhist Origins and Development, (2) Buddhist Expressions, and (3) American Buddhism. Format consists of lecture and group discussion. Assignments include short reflection essays, presentation on readings, an annotated bibliography, and creative mini-assignments. No prior Buddhist knowledge required. Suitable for students pursuing any degree type. Course meets weekdays, 6/14/21-6/25/21, from 2pm-4:30pm via Zoom. Students must complete a minimum of 5 discussion forums in Moodle prior to the start of class.
