LIBERATION PRAXIS FOR LEADERSHIP (FTRS-2976)
(01/31/2022-05/20/2022)
Course Memo
This seminar prepares students in any degree program with the skill and contextual wisdom to lead their congregations in community ministries, or to lead other non-profit organizations in the work of service and social justice. The course will look at decolonial theories to explain the persistence of social misery in every community despite unprecedented global wealth and a multi-trillion-dollar nonprofit industry. Students will engage liberationist models of accompaniment and problem-posing conscientization to underscore that people who are closest to the problem are closest to the solution, yet often farthest from resources. The course will ask students to articulate the value of theological education in community leadership. The course connects theory and practice using readings, lectures, student experiences, and individual and group exercises.
Evaluation: Each student will lead one week's discussion of the readings; write five one-page reflections on the course materials [Faculty Consent required; 12 max enrollment]
