PROPHECY AND PROPHETS (HRPH-4100)

(01/31/2022-05/20/2022)

Course Memo

This course is co-taught by Marianne Farina and John Hilary Martin. This course explores the phenomenon of prophecy in cultures and religions, with a special attention to sacred texts, narratives and places that reveal knowledge external to the world of simple observation. We begin by exploring the nature of prophecy and the reception and interpretation of sacred knowledge as presented in indigenous [Aboriginal] narratives and traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The course also examines parallel characteristics in systematic theological and philosophical studies of prophecy [Max enrollment 15]
