THLGY I: INTRODUCING PRACTICE (ST-8218)
(09/07/2021-12/17/2021)
Course Memo
This course is the first in a two-course sequence that introduces students to Christian theology: what it is, what it does, and how it is done. Although special emphasis is placed on the Anglican tradition, students encounter the concepts and themes that are central to the Christian theological imagination across its many forms. This first course begins with several sessions focused on the nature and character of theology itself. Following that, several specific theological topics are examined: God, creation, providence, election, incarnation, christology, soteriology, and theological anthropology (including treatments of sin and grace). The central requirements of the course are active participation in asynchronous online discussions; brief, journal-like writing assignments responding to class readings; and three synthesis projects.
