In this course, students will be introduced to the Buddhist traditions through narratives found both in canonical sources and historical records. Students will also be introduced to the conventions of the field of Buddhist studies and how the colonial and orientalist history of the field has constructed Buddhism as an object of study. Through providing a broad introduction to the Buddhist traditions and their academic study, the course will prepare students for further research in the field of Buddhist studies. [Auditors excluded]
