THLGY I:INTRODUCING PRACTICE (ST-2188)

This course is the first in a two-course sequence that introduces students to Christian theology: what it is, what it does, and how it is done. Although special emphasis is placed on the Anglican tradition, students encounter the concepts and themes that are central to the Christian theological imagination across its many forms. Several theological topics are examined: the nature/character of theology, God, creation, providence, election, incarnation, christology, soteriology, and theological anthropology (including treatments of sin and grace). Prior to each class meeting, students view a presentation that provides important content and context. The weekly meetings are devoted entirely to discussion and the exchange of ideas. The central requirements of the course are active participation in class; brief, journal-like writing assignments responding to class readings; and three synthesis projects. [Auditors with faculty permission]
